Let‘s get started!
Why Add Roblox to Your Discord Status?
Before we get into the nitty gritty details, let‘s discuss why you‘d want to add Roblox to your Discord status in the first place.
As a fellow gamer, I totally get it. Part of the fun of gaming is being able to share and show off your gaming obsession to others.
Adding your current game as your Discord status is an awesome way to do just that!
Your status will broadcast to all your server members and friends that you‘re currently in-game on Roblox.
For example, my Discord status might show:
Playing ROBLOX – 58 minutes
This lets everyone know I‘m online and gaming on Roblox.
I can even see which of my friends are also playing Roblox based on their status. Pretty cool!
According to Discord, over 150 million users actively use their service monthly. Of those, 55 million actively use the activity status feature.
So millions of gamers are leveraging this to display what they‘re playing.
Plus, Roblox itself has an absolutely massive user base – over 200 million monthly active users!
So tons of your friends are likely playing Roblox too.
Adding Roblox as your status is an awesome way to share your gaming obsession, see what servers are gaming, and even squad up with friends.
Now let‘s get into the step-by-step process.
Step 1: Join a Roblox Game on Desktop
The first crucial step is joining a Roblox game.
This is required because Discord‘s activity status only works if you‘re actively playing a game.
Simply having the Roblox website open isn‘t enough to trigger it. You need to actually be in-game.
Once you launch a game, Discord recognizes you‘re in a Roblox session and adds it to your status.
A few critical notes on how to join a game properly:
Requirements for Roblox Game
- Must be played on PC/desktop – mobile app doesn‘t work
- Requires an actual game – website alone won‘t work
Here are the steps to launch a Roblox game:
- On your PC, head to roblox.com and log into your account
- Browse or search for a Roblox game you want to play
- Click the green "Play" button to launch the game
For example, I like to play popular games like Brookhaven RP or Theme Park Tycoon 2 to get my Roblox status showing.
Once you‘ve successfully joined a game, minimize the window and move on to connecting Discord.
desktop vs mobile
| Desktop | Mobile | |
|---|---|---|
| Activity Status | Yes | No |
| Full Game Selection | Yes | Limited |
| Performance | Better | Lags |
As you can see in the table above, the desktop version is required to get the full experience including activity status.
The mobile app just can‘t provide the same level of performance and features. So make sure you‘re playing your Roblox game on a PC or Mac.
Step 2: Minimize the Roblox Game
Now that you‘ve joined a Roblox game, go ahead and minimize the game window.
You can do this quickly by clicking the "-" button at the top right of the window.
This minimizes Roblox down to your taskbar, but keeps it running in the background.
Why minimize instead of closing Roblox fully?
Great question! You need to keep Roblox open in the background to keep your Discord activity status active.
If you close Roblox entirely, your status will revert back to blank or offline.
So minimizing the game allows Roblox to keep running while freeing up your screen to change Discord settings.
Go ahead and minimize now so we can jump into Discord.
Step 3: Open Your Discord Settings
With Roblox open and minimized, it‘s time to dive into the Discord settings and enable activity status.
To access your settings panel:
-
Open the Discord desktop app if you don‘t already have it launched
-
Click the small gear icon next to your profile picture. This opens your user settings.
You can also get to settings by clicking the down arrow next to your name.
Either way, this will open up the full Discord settings menu with all your account, privacy, authorized apps and more.
Now scroll down and click "Activity Status" to open those settings next.
Step 4: Enable Activity Status
Here comes the money step – enabling the activity status feature!
Within your Activity Status settings, toggle the switch for "Display current activity as a status message" to the ON position.
This switch enables Discord to display the game you‘re playing as your status.
If it‘s already enabled, you‘re all set. If not, make sure to flip it on now.
See the screenshot below to make sure you‘ve got the correct setting toggled on:
[Screenshot of activity status toggle switched on]With activity status enabled, Discord will automatically detect games like Roblox and show it in your status.
Next let‘s make sure Roblox is showing properly.
Step 5: Manually Add Roblox if Needed
In most cases, enabling activity status is all you need for Roblox to pop up.
But occasionally Discord misses certain games, so Roblox may not show up.
If that happens, you just need to manually add Roblox to your detected games list:
-
In Activity Status settings, click "Add It"
-
Select "Roblox" from the dropdown of games
-
Roblox will now appear in your "Added Games" section
Now when you play Roblox, Discord will definitely know to display it as your status.
Manually adding it just helps Discord recognize Roblox properly.
Step 6: Confirm It Worked!
You‘re all set up! Now just confirm that Roblox is displaying in your status.
The quickest way to check is by opening a Discord server and looking at your profile in the member list.
You should see "Playing ROBLOX" listed below your username when expanded. Sweet!
If it‘s working properly, you‘ll also see how long you‘ve been playing Roblox for.
For example, mine currently shows "Playing ROBLOX – 45 minutes."
This lets my friends know I‘ve been grinding away at Roblox for a while now.
If Roblox isn‘t displaying, double check your activity status settings and manually add Roblox. Then relaunch a Roblox game and check again.
And that‘s it – you‘ve successfully set up Roblox on your Discord status!
Roblox + Discord Activity Status Breakdown
Now that you‘ve got Roblox showing on your status, let‘s break down exactly how Discord‘s activity status integration works under the hood.
The activity status feature allows Discord to tap into what game or app you currently have open on your PC. For Roblox, here‘s what‘s happening behind the scenes:
-
Joining a Roblox game signals to Discord that you have Roblox open. As soon as you launch a game, Discord detects that change in status.
-
Discord checks for recognized games running. Discord keeps a running list of popular games it can detect. For most major games like Roblox, it will automatically pick it up.
-
Your status is updated to the detected game. Once Discord sees you have Roblox open, it will automatically update your status message to show "Playing ROBLOX."
-
Discord continues monitoring in real-time. As long as Roblox remains open, your status will stay updated with the "Playing ROBLOX" message and play time.
-
When you exit Roblox, status reverts back. As soon as you close the Roblox game, Discord recognizes that and removes Roblox from your status.
So in summary, Discord is actively monitoring your open apps in real-time and updating your status accordingly.
Pretty neat right? This integration allows Discord to connect with games like Roblox to reflect your gaming status.
Comparing with Other Streaming & Gaming Platforms
Discord isn‘t the only platform that offers live activity statuses and profiles. Let‘s compare it to some other popular gaming services.
Twitch
The king of game streaming has a similar status feature. It displays the game you‘re currently streaming live right on your profile. Friends can see when you go live or offline.
Xbox Live
On Xbox player profiles, it shows the last game you played as well as your recent achievements and activity feed. Others can check your profile to see what you‘ve been playing.
Steam
Steam has the most robust profile system. You can select favorite games which appear at the top. It also tracks your recent activity, achievements, badges and game time.
Discord
Discord focuses just on real-time status based on your current open apps and games. It‘s a lightweight yet effective way to showcase what you‘re playing right now.
While Discord doesn‘t track your full gaming history and stats like Xbox or Steam, its activity status delivers the essentials like game titles and playtime. Overall, Discord balances simplicity with social integration.
Now let‘s talk about why activity statuses are so popular!
The Rise of Social Gaming Statuses
Activity statuses have become a core social feature across gaming and streaming platforms. But why have they become so popular?
Here are some of the key reasons gamers love showing off their gaming status:
-
Shows your gaming hobby and personality. Your gaming activity provides a window into your interests and who you are.
-
Find friends to game with. You can discover other server members playing the same game and squad up.
-
Friendly competition. You can keep tabs on friends‘ games and playtimes to compete for bragging rights.

A sense of community. Connecting with fellow gamers over shared love for games like Roblox builds community.
-

-
Keeps friends in the loop. Friends and community members can easily see what you‘re up to just by glancing at your status.
As you can see, activity statuses go way beyond just displaying your game. They provide a fun, social way to connect through a shared love of gaming.
