Dragonflight‘s Breathtaking New Universe of Possibility
Releasing in late 2022 as WoW‘s 9th expansion, Dragonflight ushers in an age of discovery with the newly accessible Dragon Isles to chart. Originally planned years ago before being shelved, this draconic paradise finally emerged with 4 lush and unique zones:
- Ohn‘ahran Plains – Vibrant grasslands and forests, home of the Wild Hunt centaur tribes
- The Azure Span – Sprawling mushroom forests and night elf ruins
- Thaldraszus – Idyllic verdant coasts and jungles with naga threats
- The Waking Shores – Volcanic peaks and glimmering golden beaches
Beyond just natural beauty, the Dragon Isles house the remains of ancient dragon empire from eons past. Their mysterious histories and magics offer much to still discover.
And discover we shall! The launch of Dragonflight saw notable shakeups to WoW‘s core progression systems, all centered around more player agency in character growth. These include:
- Revamped talent trees with deeper customization
- An intricate new crafting system
- Dragonriding aerial movement
- Overhauled PvP, dungeons, raids, and more
With 19 dungeons, 8 raid bosses, new battlegrounds and arena maps, reworked profession systems, and an epic questing experience, Dragonflight offers more content breadth than recent expansions like Shadowlands (9 dungeons, 8 raids) and Battle for Azeroth (14 dungeons, 8 raids).

While veteran players know WoW has always sprinkled hidden caches throughout the world, Dragonflight takes treasure hunting to bold new heights. There are now hundreds of chests, troves, and other rewards stashed all over the Dragon Isles.
But grabbing this shiny loot takes more than just exploration. Many of these treasures are locked behind short puzzle sequences or platforming challenges. And new tools like treasure maps and helpful mole companions add further dimensions to the hunt.
Here are some key elements to understand:
Treasure Vault Maps – Keep an eye out for scrolls that unlock Treasure Vault icons on your minimap. Visit and solve their puzzles to earn piles of loot!
Oddly Specific Treasure Maps – Vague maps that lead to hidden caches. Figure out their cryptic clues to find the treasures.
Grapple Points – Use these hook points to swing over to platforms and cliffs holding chests.
Mole Companions – Adoptable moles that can dig, sniff out clues, and more! Critical for many puzzles.
Mini-Games – Some treasures feature matching games, spatial puzzles, and other challenges.
Platforming Skills – Precise jumping, gliding, and riding needed to reach certain treasures.

Walkthrough: Uncovering Brand New Digs in Waking Shores
While the haul can vary, Brand New Digs offers some sweet rewards for the taking. But first you must dive into an underground labyrinth lined with toxins and tricks. Here‘s how to emerge victorious:
Step 1) Adopt Myrrit from His Den
This puzzle requires a mole friend, so travel southwest of Haven to adopt Myrrit. He offers 4 key abilities:
- Sniff – Detects nearby treasure clues
- Spell 1 – Creates a digging spot
- Dig – Myrrit digs up items
- Put Down Myrrit – Places Myrrit on objects
Step 2) Let Myrrit Sniff Out the Cave Entrance
Head to Waking Shores‘ south coast at this location:
Near some wooden planks, use Myrrit‘s Sniff ability to spawn a gear icon. Interact with it to get a key clue.
Step 3) Dig Up the Metal Key
The key clue leads to a golden key imprint at (49, 52). Use Myrrit‘s abilities to dig up the Metal Key here.
Step 4) Clear the Toxic Gas with Spell 1
Back at the cave, toxic gas now blocks the way. Use Myrrit‘s Spell 1 to safely pass through.
Step 5) Place Myrrit on the Pressure Plate
Put Myrrit on the pressure plate ahead to open the treasure gate.
Step 6) Loot the Chest!
Finally, open the chest with the Metal Key to complete the achievement and get random loot like transmogs, recipes, reagents, and crafting materials.
With perseverance and Myrrit by my side, the treasure was ours!
Optimal Mole Companions for Treasure Hunting
While Myrrit helped unlock Brand New Digs, expanding your mole companion roster offers advantages:
