Have you jumped into the chaos of MultiVersus only to find yourself stuck battling AI bots instead of real opponents online? Annoyingly, this is caused by setting your age too low when first starting MultiVersus. But thankfully, you can fix the pesky “You cannot play online because of your age” error by simply changing your age back to 18+ again.
In this comprehensive guide from a fellow MultiVersus fanatic, I’ll walk you through exactly how to change your age in MultiVersus to access online modes again. You’ll learn:
- Step-by-step instructions to change your age
- MultiVersus’ age requirements fully explained
- Advanced troubleshooting tips from a tech geek
- Bonus tips to redeem codes, twitch rewards and more!
By the end, you’ll be dominating online 2v2 matches in MultiVersus and wondering why you ever set your age under 18 in the first place! Let’s jump in.
Step 1: Close MultiVersus Entirely
First things first, you need to fully close out of the MultiVersus application on your PC, Xbox or PlayStation.
Press the home or guide button, highlight MultiVersus, press the menu button and select “Close Application” or “Quit”. This completely shuts it down rather than just minimizing it or suspending it in the background.
Quitting entirely ensures all MultiVersus data resets properly when you relaunch it. Just backing out to the console dashboard isn’t enough!
Step 2: Access Your AppData (Local) Folder
Next, you need to access your computer’s AppData folder where MultiVersus stores your save files and age data.
On Windows, the quickest way is to open the search bar (next to the Windows Start button) and type in “%appdata%” without the quotes. This takes you right to the AppData folder.
You can also get here manually:
Windows 10/11: C:\Users\YOURNAME\AppData\Local
Windows 7: C:\Users\YOURNAME\AppData\Local
Mac OS: Users/YOURNAME/Library/Application Support
Step 3: Locate the MultiVersus Folder
Inside AppData > Local, look for a folder simply called “MultiVersus” and open it up.
This is where MultiVersus keeps your player data stored locally on your system. Be careful not to delete or modify any other files in Local.
Step 4: Delete the “SaveGames” Folder
Within the MultiVersus folder, you should see a folder called “SaveGames” that contains your age and settings.
Delete the entire “SaveGames” folder to completely reset your MultiVersus data.
On Windows, right-click it and select “Delete”. On Mac, drag it to the Trash. Deleting this allows you to enter your age again.
Step 5: Relaunch MultiVersus and Update Your Age
With the SaveGames folder deleted, you can now open up MultiVersus again.
When prompted, enter your correct date of birth and set your age to 18 or older instead of under 18 this time!
Once your age is updated properly, MultiVersus should let you play online matches without any more errors about your age.
Why Setting Your Age Matters in MultiVersus
Now you know how to change your age in MultiVersus to fix offline mode issues. But why does your age matter in the first place?
MultiVersus is rated T for Teen by the ESRB due to mild violence and language. So you technically only need to be 13+ to play.
However, it seems players under 18 are currently unable to access online modes and get errors about playing offline only. This is likely a bug.
While frustrating, the simple fix is to set your age to 18+, even if you’re a teen 13-17. This avoids any bugs and lets you play online properly.
I expect Player First Games will patch this age bug soon. But in the meantime, 18+ is safest.
Advanced Troubleshooting Tips from a Tech Geek
Hopefully changing your age in MultiVersus resolved any offline errors you were seeing. But technology isn’t perfect, so here are some advanced troubleshooting tips if you still can’t play online:
-
Double check AppData – Make absolutely sure the MultiVersus “SaveGames” folder is deleted before relaunching the game. Any leftover data can prevent your age from resetting properly.
-
Retry multiple times – Try closing MultiVersus, changing your age, and relaunching 2-3 times. Occasionally it takes a couple tries to fully clear out old age data. Persistence pays off!
-
Reinstall if needed – As a last resort, uninstall MultiVersus entirely and delete any leftover files. Then do a fresh install and enter your age as 18+ right away before playing. This ensures no outdated data sticks around causing issues.
-
Contact support – If you still see errors about playing offline or your age after trying the steps above, reach out to WB Games support. Explain your situation and they should be able to escalate and troubleshoot further.
-
Follow MultiVersus on Twitter – The devs post updates about known bugs and upcoming patches @multiversus. So keep an eye out there for any news about offline mode fixes.
With some patience, you should be able to squash any lingering age errors. The online battle arena awaits!
