Welcome lone operative! I see you‘ve got your hands on the Dead Drop mission in the new DMZ mode for Call of Duty: Warzone 2. As someone who has already extracted safely from Al Mazrah many times, let me walk you through everything you need to know to get this mission done right.
Introduction to DMZ
For those new to DMZ, here’s a quick overview. DMZ takes the familiar Warzone 2 gameplay we know and love and adds AI enemies, faction missions, a shifting loot economy and extractions to create a high-stakes PvEvP experience.
The gameplay loop goes like this: You and your squad drop into Al Mazrah with your custom loadout. You take on faction contracts, loot for better gear, battle AI combatants and other players. Finally, you exfiltrate safely via helicopter to bank your unlocks and rewards.
DMZ packs all the moment-to-moment gunplay brilliance of Warzone 2, with added layers of tactical decision making, planning and persistence across sessions. It’s an addictive new way to squad up with friends and enjoy Warzone.
Now, let’s dive into the details of the Dead Drop mission itself.
Overview of the Dead Drop Mission
Dead Drop unlocks at Tier 2 of the Legion faction mission tree. Legion offers more traditional military-style objectives focused on combat and survival.
To complete the mission you must:
- Loot 20 pieces of lethal equipment in Al Mazrah
- Deliver them to a dumpster dead drop in the city central district
Accomplishing this rewards a chunk of bonus XP to level up your overall DMZ rank, as well as unlocking further Legion missions at higher tiers.
But simply reading the mission text is just the first step. You’ll need proper planning and tactical execution to get this done safely. Time to break it down step-by-step.
DMZ Factions Overview
Before we jump into the mission, let’s quickly cover the three factions available in DMZ and how they differ:
Legion Faction
- Prioritizes combat, survival and military objectives
- Unlocks lethal weapons, equipment and killstreaks
- Straightforward mission structure
- Recommended for new players
White Lotus Faction
- Focuses on high-risk, high-reward missions
- Specializes in contraband smuggling and securing VIPs
- Chance of rare, lucrative contraband rewards
- Chaotic, challenging missions requiring coordination
Black Mous Faction
- All about hoarding cash and valuables
- Provides missions to raid stashes and steal supplies
- Rewards large amounts of cash to bank for future sessions
- Ideal for loot-focused players
This background will help inform your gameplay and mission priorities based on your preferred playstyle. Now let‘s get back to tackling Dead Drop itself.
Step 1 – Looting Lethal Equipment
For this first objective, you‘ll need to loot 20 pieces of lethal equipment from around Al Mazrah City. This includes:
- Frag grenades
- C4 explosives
- Throwing knives
- Claymores
- Proximity mines
- Molotov cocktails
Lethal equipment is devastatingly effective against NPC enemies thanks to the splash damage and area denial potential. With skill, they can also be used to great effect against human opponents.
Here are the top spots my squad and I have found best for rapidly amassing lethal equipment:
The Embassy
This point of interest just north of the city center is swarming with hostiles, both outside and within the building. Methodically clear each floor and room and you‘ll have a stash of frags and claymores in no time.
Watch the exterior balconies too – enemies up here often drop lethal loot.
Al Samaa Arms Hotel
Another hotspot for enemy activity. The interior courtyard and rooftop pool areas are lethal equipment goldmines if you can clear out the NPC forces occupying them.
Arms Deal Sites
These temporary activities cause major weapon and equipment caches to spawn in set locations. Completing the arms deal yields huge amounts of lethal items if you can fend off competing players.
With so much lethal loot concentrated in one spot, be ready for a fiery fight!
Looting Strategy and Tips
As you hunt for equipment, make sure to:
-
Thoroughly sweep buildings room by room
-
Check every floor and staircase
-
Peek into closets, bathrooms and side areas
-
Destroy luggage and crates – these often contain random loot
-
Prioritize looting dead NPCs before occupying yourself with containers and cash
-
Only grab equipment you intend to use – don‘t hoard to avoid encumbrance
Pro Tip: Parkour your way up onto rooftops to ambush enemies from above or access secret stash spots!
Step 2 – Delivering to the Dead Drop
Once you‘ve acquired at least 20 lethal items, it‘s time to head to the delivery point. This is a dumpster located near the center of Al Mazrah City district:

Dead drop dumpster location marked
Move carefully as you transport your precious explosive cargo. Stick to cover in case of ambushes.
When you arrive at the dumpster, interact with it to open the lid. You‘ll be prompted to deposit your equipment. Do this, letting every piece of your lethal loot tumble in until the delivery is fulfilled.
If you have excess beyond 20 pieces, hang onto it! More is always better when it comes to explosives.
Delivery Tips
-
Move deliberately between pieces of cover as you travel to reduce exposure
-
Have a close-range weapon like an SMG ready in case you get jumped
-
Don‘t fast move or sprint – this will make too much noise
-
Approach the dumpster area cautiously, clearing angles before interacting
-
You can deliver equipment in multiple smaller trips rather than all at once
And that covers the core of the mission – loot and deliver for success! But I have plenty more insider tips to share…
Recommended Loadout
Having the right loadout before inserting gives you an edge on missions like Dead Drop. Here are my top recommendations:
Primary: Short-range option like an SMG or shotgun. The ISO Hemlock is currently my go-to for tearing through hostiles in close quarters.
Secondary: Sniper or battle rifle. I always carry an SP-R 208 for long-range threat removal and scouting. The PA88 weapon blueprint has awesome handling.
Lethal: Frag grenades are your bread and butter for flushing out enemies. Proximity mines also do work placed cleverly around objectives.
Tactical: Stim for self-healing. Pop it immediately when you get hit for quick recovery during fights.
Perk 1: Double Time to reposition and flank faster between engagements.
Perk 2: Restock constantly feeds you more lethal equipment as you expend it.
Perk 3: Battle Hardened makes AI stuns and flashes way less disruptive.
Ultimate: Dead Silence. The sound masking lets you reposition aggresively.
Enemy Profiles
Familiarize yourself with the various enemy types you‘ll encounter in Al Mazrah and how to counter them:
Foot Soldiers: Basic infantry armed with rifles and grenades. Prioritize them first when engaging a group. Aim for headshots.
Riot Shields: Slow moving but soak lots of damage. Flank them or use lethals to score a kill.
Snipers: Camouflaged and stay at long range. Spot their glint and take them out before they can fire.
Heavies: Wear armor with miniguns and RPGs. Keep your distance and bust their helmet quickly.
Breachers: Rush your position aggressively with shotguns. Drop them fast before they overwhelm you.
Controllers: Support enemies that buff and heal others. Take them out first to slow a squad.
Playing With Squadmates
If you‘re tackling Dead Drop with some friends, coordinate and divide roles:
-
Designate a collector to focus solely on looting lethal equipment.
-
Have an escort player shadow them for protection.
-
Leave lethal delivery to the most careful, evasive teammate.
-
The fourth squadmate can scout ahead, draw fire and call out threats.
Leverage your squad‘s strengths to get this mission completed with military precision!
What Comes After Dead Drop
Nice work completing your first delivery operative! This is just the beginning though.
Once you turn in Dead Drop, you‘ll unlock access to the next tier of Legion missions with even greater rewards.
I recommend prioritizing contracts focused on gathering intel at safehouses. This reveals valuable extraction points you can call in helicopters to exfil from.
Extracting with loads of gathered loot lets you purchase powerful new weapons and gear for your next infiltration.
Soon you‘ll be an elite Tier 1 operator with the skills and gear to dominate Al Mazrah. But it all starts with missions like Dead Drop.
That concludes my master guide to crushing this mission with ease. Let me know if you have any other questions about exploring DMZ. Now get out there and give ‘em hell!
