Some of my favorites are paintball for intense PvP battles, dodgeball for frantic throwing action, and disc golf for more laidback competition. The creative tools are also easy to use if you want to build your own rooms.
Rec Room is frequently updated with fresh content – the developers add something new almost every week! They host regular live events too. While there are microtransactions for cosmetic items, you get access to all the core gameplay for free. According to the developers, over 15,000 active worlds exist with more added daily. The variety is amazing – chat in a virtual nightclub, attend a comedy show, or just hang out on a scenic rooftop. There are mini-games to play too, along with creative tools for crafting your own spaces.
Full-body tracking is supported if you have extra trackers or Vive pucks. This allows your real body movements to be translated into the game for super immersive socialization. While optional VRChat+ subscriptions exist, you can access everything for free without spending money. If you like cool avatars and unique worlds, VRChat is incredibly fun.

3. The Lab – Valve‘s VR Minigame Collection

The Lab comes straight from one of the biggest names in VR gaming – Valve, the creators of Steam. It serves as an excellent introduction to room-scale VR while showing off experimental gameplay concepts. According to Steam, The Lab has been played by over 2.5 million VR gamers!
My favorite mini-games in The Lab are the archery title Longbow where you defend a castle from invaders, Slingshot where you use an angular bow to break targets, and Xortex which is a spaceship bullet hell shooter. There are also scenic non-game areas like Postcards where you can relax and enjoy beautiful mountain views.
With plenty of content and Valve‘s signature high production values, The Lab highlights the diversity of experiences possible in VR. It‘s a fun showcase you have to try, especially since it‘s completely free. This is the perfect first stop for anyone getting started with room-scale virtual reality.

4. Echo VR – Competitive Multiplayer in Zero Gravity

Echo VR comes from the Oculus Studios team and provides some of the most intense multiplayer action in VR. Two teams of players float around in zero gravity and try to grab a disc and maneuver it into the enemy‘s goal. According to the developers, over 1 million matches have been played!
You have jet boosters to propel yourself around the arena and use your momentum to slingshot off surfaces. Mastering movement by pushing off walls and coordinating with teammates feels fantastic. The competitive community is dedicated too – there are regular VR esports tournaments.
The core multiplayer mode of Echo VR is completely free. There‘s also a paid single-player expansion called Lone Echo, but you can play Echo VR online indefinitely without spending anything. If you own an Oculus headset, Echo VR‘s innovative zero-g mechanics are a must-try. This is multiplayer VR action at its absolute best.

5. Elven Assassin – Sword-Slinging Fantasy Battles

In the mood for some epic fantasy action? Elven Assassin lets you fight as a badass elven ranger defending their village from invading monsters. With a bow and arrow in hand, you perch on castle walls slaying orcs, goblins, and other dark creatures as they march forward.
The realistic archery mechanics feel incredibly satisfying to master. You nock arrows, pull back, and loose them towards weak points for critical damage. As you progress through waves, more intimidating enemies and bosses attack to provide an engrossing challenge.
While additional DLC levels are available, the core game is 100% free. You can play solo or team up with up to three other friends in co-op mode for even more MEDIEVAL MAYHEM. If you love using a bow in VR or want to fulfill your Legolas dreams, Elven Assassin is a must-play.

6. Bait! – Relaxing VR Fishing

The game uses real throwing motions to let you pitch the bait. You can spot fish swimming below and aim for highlighted targets. There are adorable fish to collect, obstacles like crabs to avoid, and powerups to activate too.
