As a long-time Tower of Fantasy player, I was super excited for the new 1.5 update that introduced the mysterious Artificial Island. This unique new area adds a ton of fresh content, but getting your hands on the Institute Key Card required to access North Gemini Island can be tricky. Don‘t worry though, I‘ve spent hours exploring the island and have all the tips you need to find this key card quickly!
What Makes Artificial Island Different
First, let‘s do a quick rundown on what makes the Artificial Island unique compared to previous areas in Tower of Fantasy:
- New island layout with completely original biome designs
- Challenging new enemies like Mechanical Souleaters and Aeonblight Drakes
- Tons of new quests and narrative content about the island‘s history
- Puzzles that take some creative thinking to solve
- Supply pods holding exclusive loot pools not found elsewhere
- A full slate of activities from time trials to dispatch sectors to exhibitions
- Unlocks the 8-player co-op Void Rift raids
It‘s hands down the most content-dense update since launch. The Artificial Island also raises some fascinating lore questions about its mysterious artificial nature that has the community buzzing.
Why You Need the Institute Key Card
Now onto the key card itself. This unassuming item is your ticket to reaching North Gemini Island, an entirely new territory unlocked by the 1.5 update. Without the Institute Key Card to activate the transmission device east of the Deserted Water Treatment Plant, you‘ll be stuck on the main Artificial Island.
And trust me, you don‘t want to miss out on North Gemini! It contains powerful enemies perfect for grinding your gear, tons of precious loot, and exclusive resources needed to upgrade your Omnium Beacons and unlock Void Rifts. The story continues there as well, making it a must-visit destination.
Where to Find the Institute Key Card
Based on my testing, Institute Key Cards have a random chance to drop from defeating Aberrants in 7 specified locations across the Artificial Island. Here are the details:
| Location | Notable Aberrants |
|---|---|
| Deserted Water Treatment Plant | Ex Researcher Angry Aberrant Damlen (Lv. 55, 200K HP) |
| Stone Mountain | Ex Researcher Lazy Aberrant (Lv. 60, 230K HP) |
| Feiyun Mountain | Unruly Aberrant Assistant (Lv. 58, 210K HP) |
| Mysterious Tetriso Ruins | Ex Researcher Sneaky Aberrant (Lv. 62, 250K HP) |
| Introduction to the Station | Aberrant Hoarder of Secrets (Lv. 65, 300K HP) |
| Natural Dragon Tumulus | Aberrant Assistant Lagar (Lv. 63, 260K HP) |
| Pavilion Beach | Aberrant Researcher Doris (Lv. 60, 220K HP) |
As you can see, these Aberrants are no slouch and range from level 55 to 65. I recommend being at least level 60 yourself before farming them. Their large health pools and hard-hitting attacks also mean you should gear up appropriately. Bring weapons with high DPS and AoE attacks to burn them down quickly.
Tips for Farming Effectively
Here are some pro tips from my own experience obtaining Institute Key Cards:
- Rotation is key – Don‘t just camp one spot. Keep moving between all 7 areas to take advantage of random respawns.
- Try different channels – If one channel seems crowded, swap to a less populated one for more frequent spawns.
- Play during off-peak times if possible to avoid competition.
- Use food buffs like Caterpillar Fungus Soup for extra damage.
- Team up to defeat Aberrants faster and get more overall chances at drops.
- Equip Luck mods on your armor to slightly boost your odds.
With persistence and these tips, you should eventually get an Institute Key Card to drop. It took me around 2 hours of active farming to get my first one.
Activating the Transmission Device
Once you finally have that precious Institute Key Card in your inventory, head east of the Deserted Water Treatment Plant. Look for a rocky outcrop with a strange machine. Interact with the transmission device and use the Institute Key Card to activate it.
Success! A portal will now open allowing instant travel to the brand new North Gemini Island zone. Step through and enjoy exploring an entirely new slice of the Tower of Fantasy world, complete with awesome loot and powerful enemies. Just remember that Institute Key Card is your ticket to unlocking this exotic destination.
Hopefully this guide provides everything you need to swiftly get your hands on the Institute Key Card. Let me know if you have any other questions! I‘m always happy to share tips with fellow Tower of Fantasy fans. Enjoy the new Artificial Island content!
