In Atomic Heart, technology and human ingenuity have created a world of both great innovation and unexpected dangers. As a special agent, you must battle against mutated creatures, crazed robots, and brilliant but deadly AI to uncover secrets and save humanity. The Into the Fire mission draws you deep into a massive production facility where you‘ll need quick thinking, combat mastery, and pipe-navigation skills to succeed.

In this guide, I‘ll cover everything you need to know to skillfully complete Into the Fire. I‘ll provide tips from my experience gaming at an expert level across many platforms and genres. I‘ll also incorporate fascinating details about Atomic Heart‘s development, lore, and comparisons to other games that I think you‘ll find interesting as a fellow passionate gamer.

So strap on your power gloves and prepare to learn how to excel at Into the Fire!

Mission Overview – Cooling the Overheated Facility

Into the Fire takes place in a large and complex factory location with many interconnected floors and platforms. The mission directly follows the catastrophic events of Operation Phoenix which caused critical system failures across the facility.

Your objective is to locate cryogenic spheres, insert them into an elaborate pipe network running through the factory, and guide them to various overheated boilers in order to cool them down. Properly cooling all of the boilers will stabilize the facility‘s main power network so you can recover important items.

However, given the chaos unleashed by Operation Phoenix, you‘ll encounter plenty of deranged machines, unpredictable security systems, and mutated creatures that stand in your way. You‘ll need to rely on your upgraded arsenal of experimental weapons and defensive gear to fight past these threats as you navigate the maze-like factory environment.

One of the things I really love about Atomic Heart is how it draws inspiration from classic first-person shooters like Half-Life 2 and Bioshock, but also adds its own unique Soviet-inspired sci-fi setting and absolutely incredible creature designs. The development team, Mundfish, did an amazing job realizing this retro-futuristic world brimming with fascinating lore and technologies. Into the Fire exemplifies this beautifully in its complex, multi-layered industrial environment.

Now, let‘s get into the step-by-step walkthrough!

Step 1 – Locate and Grab the First Cryogenic Sphere

Cryogenic spheres are large, metal orb-shaped objects with a bright blue glowing center that you need to insert into the factory‘s pipe network. Right after starting the Into the Fire mission, you‘ll notice several pipe entrances along the walls with small hatches. Head to the first pipe entrance you see and look around on the ground nearby to find a cryogenic sphere.

These spheres emit a cold vapor and are very useful for our objectives, but also dangerous if mishandled! In fact, according to in-game lore, there were 47 registered cases of cryosphere-related accidents and fatalities among staff since the facility opened in 1964. So we‘ll want to handle these spheres carefully.

Once you‘ve located the first sphere, walk up to it and press the interact button to grab it. Now we can carry this over to the pipe entrance.

Step 2 – Insert the Sphere into the Pipe Entrance

After picking up the cryogenic sphere, head over to the nearby pipe entrance you located earlier. Get close to the entrance and you should see a small opening, or chute, that you can insert the sphere into.

While facing the pipe entrance, press the interact button again to place the sphere inside. You‘ll see a cool animation as the sphere gets sucked into the pipe network.

One interesting thing I learned from the developers is that this pipe system was inspired by a real-world Soviet technology called the pneumatic tube transport network. These systems used air pressure to propel containers through a complex series of underground tubes and were used to transport mail and other cargo throughout cities.

In Atomic Heart, this idea is taken to the extreme with a vast, multi-level pipe network threaded throughout the massive facility. This allows key items like our cryogenic spheres to be quickly transported long distances. Let‘s see where this first sphere ends up!

Step 3 – Follow the Pipe Route to Locate Boiler #1

Now we need to track where that first cryogenic sphere travels to through the pipe network after being inserted. The sphere will automatically follow a pre-determined route based on the color coding and arrows on the pipes.

Our first objective is to guide the sphere to Boiler #1, a massive boiler machine providing power to the facility. Based on the pipe indicators, Boiler #1 should be located on some upper platforms on the north side.

Use your map to navigate through the multi-floor factory, traversing stairways and walkways while following the pipe route along the walls and ceilings. You may encounter some rogue machines or mutated creatures along the way, so be ready for combat just in case.

Eventually, the pipes should lead you to Boiler #1 on an upper metal platform. Soon you‘ll see the cryogenic sphere drop down right into the boiler unit, releasing its freezing vapors to cool the overheated machine. Objective complete!

Step 4 – Guide Additional Spheres to Boilers #2 and #3

Excellent work cooling down Boiler #1! But our job isn‘t done yet – there are two more boilers that need cryogenic cooling.

Head back to the pipe entrance we first used and grab a second sphere. This one needs to go to Boiler #2, located on the south side platforms. Follow the pipes, dealing with any enemies along the way, until you see the sphere reach Boiler #2.

Lastly, we need to insert one more sphere to cool Boiler #3 which can be found downstairs on the lower factory level. Travel back upstairs, collect a third cryogenic sphere, and trace the pipe route down to the lower platforms and Boiler #3.

With all 3 boilers successfully cooled, the facility‘s main power network should now be stabilized!

Step 5 – Collect the Heat-Resistant Polymer

After you‘ve guided a sphere into the third boiler, you‘ll get a notification that a Heat-Resistant Polymer canister is now available to collect. This special material can withstand extremely high temperatures.

The Polymer canister can be found on the upper platforms near Boiler #1 – look for a red fuel can-shaped object. Interact with it to add the Heat-Resistant Polymer to your inventory. This material will likely help craft protective equipment for future missions involving hazards like flamethrowers or incendiary security systems.

Step 6 – Locate and Retrieve the Final Canister

Cooling down all three boilers will also trigger the appearance of one last canister you need to secure – the Hot Workshop canister. This special container will spawn somewhere on the lower factory levels.

I recommend thoroughly searching the lower platforms near Boiler #3 as well as the underground warehouses to locate the Hot Workshop canister. Look for another red fuel can-shaped object. Grabbing this final canister will officially complete the Into the Fire mission!

Additional Tips and Strategies

Here are some extra tips from my experience that can help you master Into the Fire:

  • Carefully study pipe routes before inserting spheres – look for colored arrows or indicators showing the direction of flow. Inserting a sphere into the wrong pipe can lead it to the wrong boiler.

  • Use the visualization monitors showing the pipe network layout to track down misplaced spheres.

  • With practice, you can quickly guide all 3 spheres which is the fastest way to complete the mission. My best time is under 4 minutes!

  • Collect the Polymer and Hot Workshop canisters as soon as they become available – don‘t let enemies grab them first!

  • The powerful P-3-Pistol is great for taking out the pesky Kamikaze drones you‘ll encounter. Upgrading reload speed helps.

  • For Mutated Lab Assistants, use electric weapons to quickly drain their shields.

  • Stock up on medkits and armor boosters before attempting speed runs.

And that sums up how to succesfully complete the Into the Fire mission! Let me know if you have any other questions. Now get out there, cool those boilers, and show this facility who‘s boss!
