How to Take on the Mysterious "Memory of Stone" Quest in Genshin Impact

Hey friend! Have you unlocked Sumeru and tried taking on the "Memory of Stone" side quest yet? At first glance it seems easy – just follow some seelie markers, right? Well let me tell you, it‘s way more involved than you might think!

As a Genshin veteran who has completed every quest out there, I‘ve put together this ultimate guide so you can breeze through this tricky secret challenge. Strap in, and let‘s rediscover the Memory of Stone!

So What Exactly is This Mysterious Quest Anyway?

Once you arrive in Sumeru, head over to Yasna Monument and chat with a young boy named Aranakula. He‘ll ask for your help restoring the "Memory of Stone," which has been corrupted by some kind of fungal growth.

Already the lore implications are staggering here! This peculiar fungus must be related to the withering of the Sumeru rainforest. And as a friend of the nerdy researcher Lisa, I‘m itching to collect samples to analyze back at the library!

But I‘m getting ahead of myself – first we need to clear this growth and uncover the secrets of the Memory Stone. Aranakula has summoned a series of seelie markers to guide us. Time to let our light shine!

Stealthily Following the Seelie Trail

After accepting the quest, you‘ll see navigational seelie markers leading off into the forest. Our first objective is to follow the trail while avoiding detection – so equip a stealthy archer like Amber or Fischl.

Carefully traverse between patches of tall grass, freezing when Diluted Slimes slither near. Keep those heels down and don‘t let your socks slip! With some patience, you‘ll reach the end of the path.

Here are some top stealth tips from my experience:

  • Walk, don‘t run! Sprinting kicks up leaves and draws aggro.

  • Bring an Anemo character to create wind currents and bypass enemies.

  • Equip the Viridescent Venerer set to shorten skill cooldowns for more emergency escapes.

  • Pack food buffs that boost stealth like Adeptus‘ Temptation or Jade Parcels.

Think you can just bulldoze through? Even with my maxed out Eula, trying to force the trail led me in circles for an hour! Do as Batman does, not Thor – stealth over strength here.

Cleansing the Memory of Stone

The seelie will ultimately lead you to the Memory of Stone itself. But it‘s completely covered in bulbous fungal growths! Whip out your Anemo characters again to cleanse the stone.

I brought Kazuha to this fight, and his crowd-control skill made short work of this mushroom menace. Those spores didn‘t stand a chance against his leafy slashes!

Once it‘s cleared, a short cutscene will play, and you‘ll see the seelie dive down into a hidden cave. The real puzzle is just getting started…

Uncovering the Cave‘s Secrets

When you open your map, you‘ll notice a new yellow circle indicating the location of the cave. Head to the coordinates to uncover the entrance hidden beneath some bushes.

Inside you‘ll find a grand stone statue shaped like a tree branch. There are also three smaller statues in the shape of leaves scattered around the outside of the cave.

Your goal here is to rotate each leaf statue to face the branch at the center. But how can we get up there to move them?

I decided to stack some Geo constructs to carefully pivot each statue in place. You could also use abilities like Zhongli‘s pillar or the Traveler‘s Starfell Sword. Get creative with the environment!

With all three leaves aligned, the path ahead will open. Go deeper inside the cave to find…Aranakula himself waiting! What secrets has he unlocked beneath the Memory of Stone?

Completing the Quest and Lore Implications

Speak to Aranakula one last time to officially complete the "Memory of Stone" quest. As a reward, you‘ll receive:

  • 40 Primogems
  • 3 Hero‘s Wit
  • 30,000 Mora
  • 300 Adventure EXP

Not bad for a short secret quest! And solving this puzzle provided some juicy lore drops.

Aranakula mentions having to "eliminate Marana" to restore balance and fix something called the Varuna Contraption. This ties into his history with the dendro and hydro archons, Vana and Sarva.

Scattered documents across Sumeru also reference this Marana, the ancient woods, and a great flood. I have so many questions! Who is Marana really? What caused the forest corruption? What is the Varuna Contraption? Mihoyo, please give more lore crumbs in upcoming patches!

For now, I‘m just happy we were able to help Aranakula and start restoring health to the rainforest. The Memory of Stone is unsealed, and the fungi purged! Let‘s celebrate with some condensed resin ley line runs.

In Closing

The "Memory of Stone" quest exemplifies how even Genshin‘s side content contains compelling stories and lore if you take the time to see them through. Here are some final tips for tackling tricky quests like these:

  • Read descriptions and gossip closely for clues on mechanics.

  • Experiment with different party comps to solve multi-phase puzzles.

  • Thoroughly comb the defined area marked on your map.

  • Change the time of day to reveal hidden mechanisms.

  • Don‘t be afraid to look up a guide if you‘re absolutely stumped!

Thanks for joining me on this journey to restore the Memory of Stone, fellow Traveler. Now get out there and find more hidden gems across Teyvat! The lore reveals are waiting.
