Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is one of the most highly anticipated upcoming games in the Star Wars franchise. As a sequel to 2019‘s Jedi: Fallen Order, Survivor continues the story of Cal Kestis, a young Jedi Knight trying to survive in the aftermath of Order 66 and the Jedi Purge. Overview of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor
For those unfamiliar with the games, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is a single-player, third-person action-adventure game set between the events of Episode III: Revenge of the Sith and Episode IV: A New Hope. The first game followed former Jedi padawan Cal Kestis as he tried to survive the Jedi Purge and rebuild the order while being hunted by the Empire‘s Inquisitors.
In Survivor, Cal‘s fight against the darkness continues as he encounters new threats while being pushed to the edges of the galaxy. With the Empire tightening its grip across the stars, Cal finds himself surrounded on all sides as one of the last remaining Jedi Knights. He‘ll need to utilize all of his training and skills with the Force to persevere.
Respawn Entertainment has emphasized Survivor will expand on the combat and exploration from Fallen Order while upping the stakes for Cal‘s journey. The forest gate objective comes early on and serves as a tutorial for some of the new platforming abilities Cal will use.
Locating the Forest Gate in Swindler‘s Wash
The forest gate itself is located in an area known as Swindler‘s Wash on an uncharted world Cal visits. Based on pre-release footage and images, Swindler‘s Wash is a lush, green forest environment filled with waterfalls, rivers, and unique flora and fauna. It has an untamed feel reminiscent of locations like Kashyyyk or Felucia from the Star Wars universe.
Cal will need to traverse and navigate through the various cliffs, waterways, and creatures inhabiting Swindler‘s Wash to reach the gate. Given the name, he‘ll likely encounter thieves, smugglers, or other shady characters along the way. The gate itself rests against a huge rock wall near a large waterfall, almost blending into the natural environment.
By studying the terrain and consulting your map, you can chart a path through Swindler‘s Wash that avoids unnecessary conflicts while bringing you closer to the objective. However, some combat and feats of athleticism will be required to bypass certain areas.
Defeating the Bilemaw Under the Waterfall
One of the major obstacles standing between Cal and the forest gate is a creature known as a Bilemaw that makes its lair under the giant waterfall. Based on concept art, the Bilemaw resembles a huge, frog-like monster with sharp teeth and claws. It sits right in the path required to reach the gate.
To defeat this miniboss, you‘ll need to make good use of Cal‘s lightsaber and Force abilities. Analyze the Bilemaw‘s attack patterns and wait for openings to dash in and inflict damage. Using Slow on it can buy you more time to strike. When it shoots acid or attempts to grab Cal, dodge roll out of the way then counterattack. As a large target, Force Push can stagger the Bilemaw and leave it vulnerable.
Patience and well-timed dodges are key to overcoming this foe. Don‘t get greedy chasing damage, as its powerful claws and lunge can shred through Cal‘s health. With the right strategy, the Jedi can dispense with this obstacle on his path.
Climbing the Cliff Behind the Waterfall
With the Bilemaw defeated, a huge cliff face behind the waterfall is now reachable and must be scaled to get closer to the forest gate. This is where Cal will need to utilize new traversal abilities introduced in Survivor to climb up the slippery rocks.
Specifically, the Ascension ability allows Cal to run up steep surfaces by using the Force to adhere to walls at sharp angles. Between this new power and careful jumping, you can chart a path up the cliff by locating cracks and handholds. Moving water from the waterfall will make the climb more treacherous, requiring well-timed jumps and Ascension uses.
If Cal loses his grip and starts to fall, quickly look for a crack to recover or try using Ascension again to regain footing before plummeting into the deadly pool below. Safe spots to regain stamina will be key to reaching the top. The Force is an ally here, letting Cal achieve a feat no ordinary climber could manage.
Running Along the Cliffside Wall
After reaching the top of the waterfall, Cal finds his route blocked once more by a gap too far to jump across. This is where his new Force Dash ability comes into play, allowing Cal to burst forward in an instant. By aiming Dash at key anchor points, Cal can essentially run along the vertical rock wall itself to cross this distance.
Timing is critical, as mistiming the button press will send Cal falling. Watch for visual and audio cues indicating when to hit Dash again to keep momentum going. Try to maintain a smooth rhythm instead of frantically mashing. Cal‘s Force connection allows him to defy gravity here by streaking across the cliffside.
With practice, Cal can master this new movement skill to bypass obstacles that would stop other explorers. Learning to chain the Dash and wall run opens up exciting new traversal possibilities for the young Jedi.
Combat Around the Forest Gate
After crossing the cliffside, Cal finally arrives before the mystical forest gate itself. However, it is still sealed and guarded by Ovissian raiders and security droids who must be defeated before he can unlock the passage. This makes for some intense combat as Cal faces off against multiple foes at once.
Utilize all of Cal‘s lightsaber forms here, mixing heavy and light attacks with Force abilities to control the crowd. Target unshielded enemies first then use Saber Throw or Push to break the droids‘ defenses. Mix leaping jumps with Dash to evade and reposition while cutting down attackers. Their numbers could overwhelm a weaker fighter, but a disciplined Jedi can overcome these odds.
Conserve health stims until absolutely necessary. With smart tactics, Cal can prevail against the raiders and droids without taking too much damage before interacting with the gate. Stay nimble on your feet and trust in the Force.
Unlocking the Forest Gate
After clearing out the hostiles guarding the gate, Cal can finally examine the mysterious structure up close. It appears ancient yet advanced, sealed by unknown mechanisms. To open the passage, Cal must utilize a device known as a Gyro Module.
Based on scans, the module can integrate with ancient technologies to bypass security locks. After syncing his comm link with the module, Cal will be able to project a decryption beam at the gate to unlock it.
However, the module takes time to break the complex encoding. You must prevent enemies from disrupting the process by defending Cal as his comm link penetrates the gate‘s defenses. Fend off any reinforcements trying to stop the unlocking procedure. With the module‘s beam uninterrupted, the forest gate will slowly grind open, allowing Cal access to the area beyond.
What Lies Beyond the Gate
By overcoming the various obstacles in his path, including wildlife, terrain, and hostile forces, Cal can successfully unlock the ancient forest gate barring his progress. Passing through the gate, he finds more of the higher technology hinting at some greater mystery about this uncharted world.
Cal‘s next objective becomes reaching something known as the Forest Array. Judging by the architecture and tech, this planet was clearly inhabited once, although no records seem to exist indicating who built this gateway. By pushing forward, Cal may uncover more secrets about this place, its history, and why he was drawn here.
Opening the forest gate represents a major milestone both in gameplay challenge and narrative progression. Cal will need to continue mastering his expanding Force abilities and lightsaber skills to survive the dangers that await him. But the secrets held here may prove pivotal in his quest to restore the Jedi Order. Surviving the darkness means confronting the unknown. Cal‘s journey has only just begun.
