Welcome fellow adventurer! I see you have your sights set on plumbing the depths of the Ruins of Eridu in Diablo IV. Smart move – this level 54 dungeon holds lucrative treasures for those bold enough to uncover its secrets. Join me as we delve into everything you need to know to conquer this forgotten city.
So What Exactly Are the Ruins of Eridu?
These mysterious ruins are located in the southeast corner of the Toxic Fens region of Hawezar, near the border with Zarbinzet. Long abandoned, this dungeon was once the bustling city of Eridu, said to be one of the very first cities ever built on Sanctuary according to ancient Sumerian legends.
Now, it‘s overrun by skeletal warriors, restless spirits, and other undead monstrosities. Surviving its challenges and looting its chambers can reward you with rare equipment, the unique Sacrificial Aspect reward, and some tantalizing bits of lost history.
Optimal Builds and Gear for Success
Before rushing headlong into this dungeon, make sure your character build and equipment loadout is primed for handling the undead. I‘d recommend being around level 54 before tackling Eridu, with gear to match.
Crowd control abilities like freezing, stunning, or fearing are crucial when dozens of skeletons come swarming at you. Slows, snares, and knockbacks also help kite dangerous enemies while you pick off the horde.
Prioritize life leech, life on hit, and life per kill to sustain yourself during the fierce skirmishes. Poison and decay resistance also come in handy both inside the ruins and out in the Toxic Fens.
Speaking from painful experience, don‘t neglect your defenses either! Many a hero has been felled by getting overwhelmed and focused down. Balance your damage with survivability.
Suggested Classes and Builds
I‘ve had the most success navigating Eridu using these classes and builds:
-
Necromancer – Nightmare Mage focused on summoning undead and blasting enemies with AoE decays. The Sacrificial Aspect reward synergizes great with these skills.
-
Barbarian – War Cry centered build that debuffs mobs and sustains itself using lifesteal. Solid AoE damage too.
-
Sorceress – Frost Nova and Frozen Orb give you loads of crowd control to lock down groups. Teleport helps navigate traps.
-
Monk – Combining Cyclone Strike with Sweeping Wind tears through packs of skeletons swiftly. Mantras enhance resistances.
-
Rogue – Kiting and evasion plus powerful poisons allow you to whittle down the hordes. Caltrops and Sentry Turrets provide control.
Of course, experiment to find what playstyle suits you best! The ruins will challenge you to master your skills.
Navigating the Labyrinthine Ruins
Getting to Eridu itself poses hazards, requiring you to traverse the poisonous Toxic Fens while avoiding its noxious hazards. Once inside the dungeon, you face the restless guardians of this forgotten place. The ruins are akin to a labyrinth, with side chambers, false passages, and plenty of traps awaiting the unwary.
Based on my exploration during early access testing, here‘s a simple map of the ruins‘ major areas:

The Entry Halls serve as your gateway to the sprawling chambers beyond. Beware the Decaying Atrium though – many powerful undead lie in wait there. The Shrine of Sacrifices is your goal, but don‘t forget to explore side rooms for extra loot.
While treacherous alone, bringing along allies makes navigating the ruins safer and quicker. Coordinate to draw enemies into chokepoints or crossfires. Just be ready to rescue companions who get cornered or pinned down!
Unimaginable Riches Await the Victorious
The list of rewards for completing Eridu is long indeed! Clearing each chamber yields loads of epic level 54 loot, including armor, weapons, and accessories. The undead monstrosities themselves have a chance to drop unique relics as well.
But the greatest prize is the Sacrificial Aspect, reserved only for those who clear the innermost sanctum. This powerful amulet enhances the Necromancer‘s Siphon Blood and Blood Rush skills, amplifying their damage by a whopping 15%.
Several of my necromancer builds lean heavily on these sacrifice-related skills for both offense and defense. The Sacrificial Aspect‘s bonus allows me to push greater rifts and farm enemies faster. It‘s easily worth spending hours in this gloomy crypt!
That being said, choose your loot wisely. Some of the relics taken from these ruins seem…cursed, as if they draw upon the dark rituals once performed here. Rumors speak of a secret passage below the lowest chambers, but I have yet to find it. What other treasures may yet lurk in Eridu‘s depths?
Delving into Eridu‘s Shadowed History
Though a fantasy realm, Sanctuary‘s history is linked to our own world. Eridu‘s namesake was considered the first city founded on Earth around 5400 BC. It lies today in ruins along the Euphrates River valley.
But in Diablo IV, Eridu stands not as the cradle of civilization, but perhaps its grave. Lore fragments hint at frightening occult practices that once took place here. The city‘s original inhabitants perhaps delved too deep into forces beyond their control.
Now only the dead keep watch over Eridu‘s silent streets and temples. Exploring them imparts a chilling sense of being transported back through thousands of years into the past. It‘s both an eerie and humbling experience wandering passages where ancient feet once trod.
That same allure of discovery draws me back to these ruins again and again. There are still mysteries left to uncover regarding Eridu‘s history and inhabitants. What other cryptic clues might be gleaned from books, carvings, and artifacts scattered throughout its depths?
Preparing Mind, Body, and Soul for the Journey
The road through these forbidden ruins is not for the faint of heart, but perseverance and skill will see you through. Before you set forth, I highly recommend taking these steps:
-
Review your skills, talents, and gear to optimize them for handling hordes of undead foes. Crowd control and self-healing are essential.
-
Stock up on potions, scrolls, oils, and food to keep your strength up during the long battles. Poison cures also prove useful.
-
Ensure your weapon and armor are repaired so they don‘t break at a crucial moment. Carry repair kits just in case.
-
Study the ruins layout and hazards so you don‘t get lost or caught by surprise. Knowing the terrain is key.
