How to Regain Access to Age-Restricted Discord Servers on iOS

This all comes down to a policy change from Apple. Back in March 2021, Discord increased their app‘s age rating on the iOS App Store from 12+ to 17+ at Apple‘s request.

Here‘s why that matters:

Apple has very strict rules prohibiting access to pornographic/NSFW content in apps rated 12+, 13+ and below.
Discord contains many 18+ labeled communities focused on adult themes.
To comply with App Store rules, Discord had to increase their rating to 17+ and revoke iOS access to existing adult servers.

Unlike Apple, Google‘s policies are much more relaxed in this area. So Discord for Android and desktop users were unaffected – this change only impacted iOS.

3. Enable "Allow access to age-restricted servers on iOS"

Scroll down to the "Server Privacy Defaults" section and toggle on the switch next to "Allow access to age-restricted servers on iOS."

Enabling this override will now allow your Discord iOS app to access any 18+ labeled servers you‘re a member of through desktop.

4. Restart the Discord App on Your iPhone/iPad

The last step is to completely quit out of Discord on your mobile device and restart it. Force closing the app like this essentially refreshes it and applies the new permissions you just set.

You have to join 18+ servers from Desktop first. The iOS app can‘t browse/join them directly.
The access setting must be toggled on from Desktop. There‘s no iOS option.
iOS parental controls may still override Discord‘s settings and block mature servers.

So it‘s an imperfect solution, but this desktop setting should resolve the access issue for the majority of affected iOS users like yourself.

How Server Owners Can Avoid iOS Restrictions
